Easy Blueberry Banana Smoothie
This 4-ingredient banana blueberry smoothie is my go-to on busy mornings or when I’m craving a midday snack! Sweet, tangy, & SO simple—made with frozen blueberries and banana, yogurt, & milk.
My favorite breakfast smoothies are the simplest, with minimal ingredients. And if you’re making smoothies for kids in the morning, fewer ingredients can mean they’re more likely to enjoy it! For me, this blueberry banana smoothie is the perfect combo of simple & delicious. Thick, creamy, & sweet—with bright blueberry flavor & color!
What fruits blend well with blueberries?
Blueberries and bananas are one of my favorite pairings because the blueberries’ tartness balances the banana’s sweetness perfectly. (That’s why a blueberry lemonade is so good!) But blueberries mix well with all sorts of fruits—like other berries, mango, apple, orange, kiwi, & many more. Feel free to add any fruits you’d like to this easy blueberry smoothie recipe!
Banana Blueberry Smoothie Ingredients
- Frozen Blueberries. Instead of using fresh blueberries + ice (which will water down the flavor), a frozen blueberry smoothie will have a thicker texture & tastier flavor. Frozen berries are flash-frozen at peak freshness, so they’re just as nutritious & antioxidant-rich. Or for even more of an antioxidant boost, add a packet of frozen acai to make this an acai smoothie—or even an acai bowl!
- Frozen Banana. A blueberry banana smoothie is so much creamier & sweeter than a smoothie with blueberries alone. If you’re not a fan of banana, try substituting with mango or pineapple instead—or check out some of my other breakfast smoothie recipes without banana.
- Yogurt. To add some sweetness & a dash of vanilla flavor, I used vanilla Greek yogurt in my smoothie. But you can make your own blueberry yogurt smoothie with plain unsweetened Greek yogurt, sweetened or unsweetened regular yogurt, or use a nondairy yogurt to keep it vegan.
- Milk. I used unsweetened almond milk, but you can use any milk you like—dairy or nondairy. Or feel free to use a different liquid to help your smoothie blend, like plain water, coconut water, or fruit juice.
Optional Additions:
- Spinach. For another nutritious boost, you can turn this into a blueberry spinach smoothie by adding some fresh spinach leaves! It will change the color a bit, but you won’t even notice any spinach flavor.
- Sweetener. If you’re using unsweetened yogurt or if you want a sweeter smoothie, consider adding 1-2 tsp of sweetener: sugar, honey, maple syrup, whatever you want. It may be sweet enough for you as-is, so give it a taste before sweetening.
How to Make a Simple Blueberry Smoothie
- Add your smoothie ingredients into a blender: frozen blueberries, frozen banana, yogurt, & milk (and optional sweetener).
- Blend until smooth. (It helps to start with less liquid in your banana berry smoothie at first, then add more as needed to help it blend.)
- Serve in 2 glasses with straws, and enjoy!
- If you’re prepping ahead of time: You can meal prep breakfast smoothies by storing them in a jar or glass with a lid for up to 2 days in the fridge. (Or store in the freezer for longer storage.)
Customizing your Breakfast Smoothie
If you like this simple blueberry smoothie recipe, have fun customizing it with other frozen fruits! Swap out the blueberries and make an easy peach smoothie instead, or a watermelon smoothie—whatever you’d like! All you need is frozen fruit, a frozen banana, yogurt, & liquid to help it blend.
