Homemade Bagel Chips Recipe – How to Make Bagel Chips!

You look at bagel chips and think “how do they get that shape?” Well, it’s actually easier than you may have expected! Cut your favorite whole-wheat or gluten-free mini bagels into thin slices, then bake ‘em up into crispy homemade bagel chips! That’s it?

Sure, store-bought bagel chips are convenient. But, now that we know how the bagel chips are made, it’s scary to think that then MORE processed ingredients are added to turn them into actual crispy, crunchy chips…

With these homemade bagel chips, YOU are in control of the ingredients. No need to worry about artificial additives or inflammatory vegetable oils in the crisping process. And, I swear these homemade bagel chips are the CRUNCHIEST I’ve ever had!

The Best Thing Since Sliced Bagels

Now, let me warn you: slicing your bagels super thin will take a bit of patience. So, please don’t hurt yourself by rushing it! But, the thinner you can get them, the more they’ll crisp. And, additional time in the oven will help too, so don’t worry about them being perfect.

If you end up with pieces that aren’t full circles, that’s great! Trust me, your homemade bagel chips will be just as delicious either way.

Also, I’ve seen recipes where people actually cut bagels into chips just by slicing around the bagel (think, banana slices). Which, admittedly, is easier than painstakingly cutting through the wider side of the bagel. And, I’m sure they’re still delicious.

But, I tend to get really excited by how my food looks—so I took the more challenging route with my slicing!

Maximizing Crunch & Flavor in your Homemade Bagel Chips

Really, the key to making crunchy homemade bagel chips is getting that oil coated on BOTH sides so they crisp up. And, don’t go light on the seasonings! Choose a whole-grain bagel for a more fuel-filled snack, and get creative with your seasonings for flavors.

You can of course swap out seasonings and spices, but you could also totally use a fun flavored bagel to switch up your chip options. Blueberry, everything, egg, and onion bagels all come to mind as fun ones to try! Delicious served with hummus, guacamole, or a smear of cream cheese!
