DIY Wonder Ball Recipe with Customizable Healthy Fillings!

Ever wondered what’s in a Wonder Ball? It’s a question that defined the ‘90s. But, you don’t have to wonder anymore—because you can decide what goes into this DIY Wonder Ball recipe! Spoiler alert: if you haven’t had one of the old-school chocolate globe treats, it’s filled with candy.

So, to make this DIY Wonder Ball a bit healthier and more wholesome, I’ve filled it with a mixture of nuts, seeds, and dried fruit! Of course, feel free to get creative with any fillings you enjoy. Sort of like a crunchy, chewy trail mix or granola, but heavy on the chocolate. (A.k.a. the best part!)

Because, in true form, this DIY Wonder Ball recipe shows you how to make that sweet, chocolaty globe to hold your fillings! And, it’s actually pretty darn easy. All you need is a silicone mold and the chocolate of your choice. (If you want your DIY Wonder Ball to be vegan, use dairy-free!)

Then, melt your chocolate, coat the inside of your silicone mold, and freeze. Once hardened, fill your chocolate half-spheres and seal them together with a bit more melted chocolate! A simple yet impressive sweet treat that’s chock-full of nostalgia.

5 stars (1 rating)

Ingredients

Chocolate Base:

  • 6 oz ¾ cup chocolate of choice (dairy-free or 100% dark for vegan)

DIY Wonder Ball Filling:

  • 2 Tbsp mixed raisins
  • 2 Tbsp dried blueberries
  • 2 Tbsp slivered almonds
  • 2 Tbsp chopped walnuts
  • 3 Tbsp pumpkin seeds
  • 3 Tbsp sunflower seed kernels

Instructions

  • In the microwave or a double boiler, melt chocolate.
  • Spread melted chocolate in a layer in each silicone mold compartment. (I used a silicone mold with 6 half-sphere compartments, which created 3 DIY Wonder Balls. You’ll need 2 chocolate half-spheres per DIY Wonder Ball.)
  • Freeze for 10 minutes.
  • While chocolate freezes, add filling ingredients into a large mixing bowl and mix to combine.
  • Once chocolate has hardened, gently pop out of molds.
  • Spoon some filling mixture (2-3 Tbsp) into a chocolate half-sphere.
  • Squeeze or spread some melted chocolate along the rim of that half-sphere as your “glue,” then take another chocolate half-sphere and place it on top to seal the Wonder Ball.
  • Repeat process to create additional Wonder Balls
  • Freeze completed DIY Wonder Ball for 5 minutes.
  • Serve and enjoy!
  • Yields 4 DIY Wonder Balls.
