Personally, I’m not a fan of how alcohol makes me feel, so this season I’ve embraced coming up with tasty holiday mocktails. I’ve made a vegan eggnog recipe in the past, and I love the chance to whip up some festive beverages! Of course, you can add the alcohol of your choice to this ginger beer mocktail recipe for those who’d like it. But, for those who prefer an alcohol free drink, this is a delicious option to ring in the Christmas season!
On its own, ginger beer has a sweet flavor but also a potent, aromatic spice. Paired with apple cider and lime juice, you end up with a simple yet satisfying Moscow mule mocktail that tastes like fall and the holidays. It’s delicious all on its own or mixed with your favorite liquor—serve it however you enjoy it!
Does ginger beer have alcohol?
Traditionally, ginger beer used to be a fermented brew that did contain alcohol. Nowadays, modern ginger beer is a sweetened, carbonated soft drink that typically doesn’t contain any alcohol. (Note: Some varieties do have a low alcohol content, so read the labels to be sure.) Really, the ginger beer you’ll find in most stores now is more similar to ginger ale—except that ginger beer tends to have a much stronger, spicier flavor.
Can you drink straight ginger beer?
Yes, you can absolutely drink ginger beer on its own! It’s sweet, fizzy, and has a potent ginger flavor that gives the drink a delicious kick. But, fair warning: ginger beer has a strong flavor that can be intense if you’ve never tried it before. In this mocktail recipe, pairing it with apple cider helps to sweeten and soften that ginger kick a bit.
What is a Moscow mule mocktail made of?
Often, you’ll see ginger beer used as a main ingredient in the popular cocktail, Moscow mules. A classic Moscow mule contains ginger beer, liquor, and some type of fruit or lime juice. In this Moscow mule mocktail recipe, I’ve simply nixed the liquor and mixed the ginger beer with festive apple cider and a squeeze of lime juice!
