Grilled Hot Dog Taco Recipe

How to Make A Taco Dog – Hot Dog in a Taco Shell

For an easy taco night twist, try this HOT DOG taco recipe! It’s as simple as putting a grilled hot dog in a taco shell – also known as the taco dog.

Or, skip grilling the hot dog since it’s already cooked and just warm it up in the microwave! You do you. Either way, this makes for a super simple weeknight meal and a fun way to change up the dinnertime routine.

Hot dogs are an easy go-to dinner option, so are tacos. And, both are crowd favorites! So, why not put them together to create a hot dog taco that’s twice as fun? All of the tastiness of a hot dog with your favorite condiments and toppings, served in the simplicity of a taco shell. Best of all, the whole meal only takes around 10 minutes to prep!

Of course, one reason hot dogs are such a convenient option is they’re already cooked, so no effort required. But, taking a few minutes to grill your hot dogs can add some tasty additional flavor and some gorgeous grill marks! It’s a minor detail that can make a simple meal even more enticing.

If you’ve got soft flour tortillas on hand, they’re a great option for your taco shell. I’ve even seen some people press them in a panini press for added tastiness! Or, try my low-carb almond flour tortillas. Personally, I served my grilled hot dog taco in a hard corn shell and I highly recommend giving this a try. That satisfying crunch is hard to beat!

How to Grill Hot Dogs without a Grill

As mentioned, hot dogs are generally already cooked and ready to eat straight out of the package. But, how you choose to heat them can affect your eating experience and add more flavor to your meal.

Since this hot dog taco recipe is already so simple, I decided to take a few minutes to grill my hot dogs on my grill pan!

I simply heat my grill pan over the stove, then add my hot dogs and allow them to heat for 2-3 minutes on each side. To get the best possible grill marks, I recommend leaving them alone and not moving them until you flip them.

Also, if you have a grill press (or a heavy pan) to help keep them flat, your grill marks will be even nicer!

Taco Dog Assembly & Serving

Once grilled to your liking, they’re ready to serve. You can either serve the hot dog whole or slice it in whatever way you’d prefer (in half, into rounds, etc.).

All that’s left to do is layer the hot dog into your chosen taco shell, dress it up with your favorite condiments, and your hot dog taco is ready to enjoy!

Remember, if the hard corn taco shell isn’t your thing, go with small soft tortillas instead.

And, if you’ve got a panini press, try pressing those tortillas to seal them and get some nice grill marks on the outside!

Of course, none of the grilling or panini pressing is necessary—it’s just all about bringing more fun and joy to our meals. Embrace your food freedom and make this into your ultimate taco dog dinner!
