Banana Split Parfait Ingredients
- Banana. Rich in potassium, bananas support heart health and blood pressure regulation. They also offer a quick source of energy and are good for digestion due to their fiber content!
- Greek Yogurt. Packed with probiotics, Greek yogurt can help to support gut health. It’s also high in protein, which is beneficial for muscle repair and growth, and calcium, essential for bone health.
- Granola or Trail Mix. Depending on the mix, granola or trail mix can provide a good source of fiber, protein, healthy fats, and energy. Nuts included may offer omega-3 fatty acids, important for heart health. However, it’s important to be mindful of the sugar content, as some granolas can be packed with added sugars.
- Berries. High in antioxidants, berries such as blueberries and raspberries can help fight inflammation and promote heart health. They’re also fiber-rich for healthy digestion!
- Peanut Butter. A good source of protein and healthy fats, particularly monounsaturated fats. It can help with feeling full and provides energy. Mostly though, it just tastes good…
- Honey. Though high in natural sugars, honey has antioxidants and can offer antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory benefits, and it’s a perfect way to add a touch of sweetness to this breakfast.
- Cherry. For deliciousness. It’s a banana split after all!
How to make my Banana Split Breakfast Parfait.
Now, this isn’t your average banana split. I’ve swapped out the traditional ice cream and chocolate syrup for yogurt, fresh fruit, and granola! Basically, take your traditional yogurt parfait ingredients and serve them up dessert style. The banana split bowl is totally optional, but it definitely makes this breakfast dessert more fun!
1 Slice your banana
Start by slicing your banana lengthwise to form two long halves, and place them into a shallow bowl to create the base for your parfait.
2 Add some berries
Add in an assortment of your favorite berries between the banana slices, I went with sliced strawberries and blackberries here.
3 Scoop on your yogurt
Use an ice cream scoop to add your Greek yogurt between the two banana halves, creating the classic ice cream appearance of a traditional banana split. Substitute dairy-free yogurt if you want to make this vegan.
4 Add some MORE berries!
Scatter on some additional berries! I used a mix of strawberries, blackberries, raspberries, and blueberries.
5 Sprinkle on some granola
Now sprinkle on your granola of choice for a delightful crunch and nutritional boost!
6 Add peanut butter and honey
Gently melt peanut butter until it reaches a slightly thinner consistency, then drizzle it over the parfait along with honey for a glossy, sweet finish. You can substitute the honey with maple syrup if you’d like to keep this vegan.
8 The cherry on top (literally)
Last but not least, top it with a cherry! This adds such a classic touch and an extra bit of sweetness.
But, don’t be afraid to switch up your banana split breakfast parfait recipe with different fruits, toppings, and mix-ins that you enjoy. I love the naturally sweet and tart flavors of fresh berries, and they give my body an awesome antioxidant boost!
Also, be sure to read the nutrition label on your granola and choose a low-sugar variety. (This is a BREAKFAST dessert after all—not just dessert!) Or, try one of my easy homemade granola recipes, like my traditional granola or my grain-free low-carb granola.
Packing Fuel into Your Breakfast Banana Split Parfait
This beauty is loaded with satiating fiber from the berries and the banana, and you can pack in the protein with Greek yogurt. (Or use cottage cheese if you like!) But, you can also turn this into a gluten-free, dairy-free, paleo, or vegan banana split breakfast parfait—whatever suits your lifestyle!
Just use a dairy-free yogurt option, like almond milk yogurt or coconut milk yogurt. Also, there are some store-bought grain-free granolas out there, if you can find them. But, you could also just use a mixture of your favorite nuts and seeds as a topping instead!
There are SO many ways to use wholesome, fuel-filled ingredients in new and fun ways to shake up our healthy eating routines. You don’t HAVE to stick with the same meals every day to be healthy.
And, we’re more likely to KEEP eating healthy foods if we get creative and have some variety in our diet. Treat yourself to a banana split breakfast parfait and keep healthy food interesting!
